Ok, so there is alot of controversy on what kind of weapon you would use in a Zombie Apocalypse situation. Mostly everyone thinks "Go for the gun!". Well what if you do, use it, and run out of ammunition? What's your next step? What should you grab? Well you have quite a few options:
Crowbar: You've probably palyed Half-Life before. The use of a crowbar to kill enemites isn't such a crazy idea. It is readily avaible in most hardware stores, and in mostly anyones garage or shed. So it is an abundant weapon. But what about the kill rate? Well there are quite a few ways to use it. You can use it as a bludgeon with the long straight part, and crack a skull with a downward swing, or you could even use the sharp edge to go in through the eye socket, and into the brain case. These are both great options as they both have a good chance of destroying the brain sten, or causing enough damage to the brain for the zombie to not be able to function. And on a non-combat note it can be used to break into containers, houses, and cars, which will be essential to collect supplies. So It's a very versatile tool, for combat and non-combat.
Axe: This is a good choice. This is a normally wooden handled, with a sharpened blade/head on the end, used for chopping wood mainly. It is normally weighed so that it has a large amount of downward force. Imagine that split wood being a zombies skull. That's almost a 100% kill rate if you hit in the skull with a downward swing. It's readily avalible in most hardware stores, and some people keep them in a shed or garage. If you do choose an axe, there are either two handed, like a fire axe, or a one handed, like a hand axe, or a tomahawk. A one handed axe is good for killing in close qaurter spaces, but the shorter range puts you at a disadvantage. But a two handed, though it has a long reach, has two issues. It's bulky, so it'll be harder to handle in tight spaces, and also when you miss a swing, it can over throw your balance, leaving you open to attacks.
Knife: This is an interesting option. It has a few setbacks. It's short reach makes it so you must get in close for a kill. And you have to stab them in the skull, which is fairly close to the mouth, which is VERY dangerous. To use one of these in a way that will work, you should probably have training in CQC, which stands for Close Quarters Combat. But if you don't have extensive training with knife combat, use these as either a very last resort weapon, found throughout houses, or as a non-combat every day use tool.
Machete: These have the properties of a knife, but with a longer reach, normally about 1- 1 1/2 foot long. That is much better suited to combat, as it has a longer reach, and is normally made specifically for cutting and slashing. It can be sheathed on a hip, to allow hands free, and pulled out to swing into a zombie skull, or even use a hilt to knock down a zombie by cracking it into their head. All and all it is a good weapon, but if you do look for one, either down use one for to long, because they wear out after a while, or get a longer lasting military-grade one.
